{"id":355,"date":"2024-04-23T18:55:37","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T18:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/burkjackson.com\/?p=355"},"modified":"2026-05-30T19:10:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T19:10:57","slug":"looking-down-the-barrel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/burkjackson.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/23\/looking-down-the-barrel\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking down the barrel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/burkjackson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/img_1074-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-357\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s funny that I\u2019m in the last week of my time in Lo De Marcos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After almost eight months of being here and establishing a simple life, it\u2019s interesting to see how I feel and what I want as the deadline looms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone asked me if I was ready to leave, and my response was, \u201cabsolutely not\u201d\u2026. As the adage goes, though- \u201cit\u2019s better to leave when you want to stay than stay when you want to leave.\u201d That\u2019s certainly the case for me today as I sit on the beach listening to a podcast as I write this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/burkjackson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/img_1058-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-360\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I woke up very early this morning and went to watch the sun come up onto the breaking waves. It was a beautiful morning with three different dogs coming up to say hello. I commented to one owner that they could sense that I\u2019m a dog person without a dog and needed that energy, which was beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m seeing friends and dining out to enjoy all my favorite things to alleviate the sense of loss that I know will come. It\u2019s interesting to see where my desires go when I consider not being here any longer what sorts of experiences I\u2019m craving on many different levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/burkjackson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/img_1075-1-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-359\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fish tacos from my favorite place <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, I\u2019ve embarked upon two projects swirling around in my head, which have been both exciting and daunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Interview with Molly Lannon Kenny\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y0eLC5UdAFg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most relevant is a YouTube video interview project where I simply ask a question and see what happens. The question that has become most appropriate and relevant is, \u201cIf you could have a conversation with your younger self, what is one thing that you would tell them?\u201d It\u2019s been enlightening and entertaining to see what they have to say.
